[www.inewsguyana.com]– Courtney Crum-Ewing’s father on Monday, March 16 staged a protest in front of the Attorney General’s Carmichael Street office, demanding justice for his son, who was gunned down on March 10 in Third Street, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara while urging residents to go out and vote on May 11.
Clifford Crum-Ewing expressed fear for the lives of his other children who reside in Guyana.
“Because this Texas that you guys are living in is very troubling; why is it that people wanna kill people of their own for talking…I am tearing up inside, I am really distraught about this thing,” the distraught father said.
He does not believe that his son’s death was untimely because his aim is being achieved.
“It’s very sad to know that a citizen of this country cannot exercise his rights and I am wondering whatever happen to freedom of speech in this country…who wants to lose a son? He was smart and he was doing what he believed in, what he was doing was not for me, for you; it was for everybody, even though he might have done it alone, whatever the outcome might have been everyone stand to gain from it.”
The grieving father, who arrived in Guyana on Sunday evening, explained that he has no confidence in the system to solve his son’s killing.
“I don’t believe there is anyone, whether the police and government that can give me the satisfaction I need or will take the necessary action to make sure justice is served…I would hope that nobody retaliates in this situation in a violent manner because what Courtney was doing was in a very peaceful way and I would hope that they don’t.”
The senior Crum-Ewing believes that his son started a journey that many can now traverse in the name of change.
“I mean stand up for your right in this country, stand up for what you believe in, stand up and continue to open doors for success and for a change.”
The recent Post Mortem Examination (PME) results of the Political Activist revealed that he was shot five times, including three times to the head.
The results also revealed that he was shot point blank range from behind his neck and one from under his arm pit which exited above his shoulder.
Two war heads have been recovered from the head of the deceased and gun powered residue was found on the collar at the back of the shirt he was wearing when he was gunned down.
The 40 – year –old father of three was walking in Third Street, Diamond at approximately 20:00hrs when a car with four men drove up and discharged several shots at him, hitting him in the head and other parts of the body.
The men escaped and Crum – Ewing’s lifeless body remained on the roadway, while his loud speaker was found some two feet away. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond hospital.
