The man who was accused of stabbing his reputed wife’s brother to death outside a wedding house in 2013 was earlier today freed of the murder charge when he appeared before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the High Court.
Hamid Latiff also called “Crapo” of Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara was previously accused of murdering 16-year-old Mulchand Murilall in November of 2013.
Reports indicated that Murilall was reportedly defending his sister Bhagmattie Murilall from the physical abuse being meted out to her by Latiff.
Latiff’s acquittal for the crime was based on a unanimous verdict by a 12-member jury, after a one-hour deliberation.
After the decision was handed down, the Judge encouraged the man to use the opportunity to stay away from trouble.
Throughout the one week trial, a number of discrepancies were found in several witness statements.
