[www.inewsguyana.com] – Courts Guyana on Tuesday, September 08 launched its University of Guyana Scholarship programme which saw three students benefiting by having their full tuition fees for the 2015/2016 Academic year paid by the multinational company.

The students, Akilla Whitney, Jamaine Hatton and Ron Ghanie all expressed elation at being selected for the scholarships, having gone through a rigorous selection programme from Courts.

Shonnell Bacchus, Courts Customer Experience Manager, explained that the initiative was birthed as part of the company’s social responsibility and would see the amount of students receiving scholarships increasing on an annual basis.

According to Bacchus, the company received a lot of applications and it came down to the three since they were able to fulfill the requirements and submit all documents.

She explained that the programme was opened to customers and the children of Courts customers. Country Manager, Clyde DeHass explained that the company did not see the project as just handing out money but more of giving young people an opportunity to be aptly educated.

It’s not just about providing scholarship but more about giving opportunities,” said De Hass. He urged that the recipients not only learn widely but also take some time to make new friends at the University.

The initiative is occasioned at a time when Court Guyana is celebrating 22 years of operations in Guyana. [Jomo Paul]
