[www.inewsguyana.com] – An unemployed woman and her boyfriend were each placed on $125,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry for the unlawful possession of ammunition.
Aden Bowen, 26, of Lot 20 Blueberry Hill and Letisha Garraway of Lot 40 Blueberry Hill, both of Wismar, Linden pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, May 05 at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, they had in their possession of a .32 magazine, without being holders of a firearm license.
According to the couple’s lawyer, the duo shared a visiting relationship and on the day in question when the police made their arrest they took no statements.
The lawyer told the Court that Bowen alleged that he was badly beaten by the police and a black plastic bag was placed over his face. According to the lawyer, she was not allowed to speak to her client while he was at the police station.
The prosecution informed the court that ranks acting on information went to the home of Bowen and conducted a search when they found the ammunition. Police prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves opposed bail on the ground that no special reason was given to the court.
The objection was overruled by the Chief Magistrate and the matter was transferred to Linden Magistrate’s Court for May 13.
