…relatives blame hospital staff for “negligence”
Two days after allegedly inflicting a stab wound on herself, a 55-year-old woman was pronounced dead on Monday night, and her family members are laying the blame on the Skeldon Hospital for “negligence.”
Dead is Chanmoney Charlie called “Pilo” of lot 1803 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice.
Based on reports received, Charlie, who is said to be an alcoholic, was involved in an argument with her husband on Saturday last, over her drinking habits. Reports say the woman became enraged, during which time she picked up a knife and stabbed herself once to the abdomen.
She then ran over to her relatives’ home and informed them that she had harmed herself. As such, they rushed her to the Skeldon Hospital where she was treated and subsequently discharged. INews understands that the self-inflicted wound was one inch in depth.
On Sunday, Charlie went back to the hospital and indicated to doctors that she was not feeling well. They reportedly checked her wound, provided her with medication and sent her home.
However, last night, relatives found the woman dead in her home. They are alleging that the woman died from internal bleeding and the medical officials at the hospital did not attend to her the way they should have.
The dead woman’s husband has since been detained by the Police and is presently assisting with investigations.
