A cane harvester was made to stand before the Whim Magistrate’s Court to face the charge of rape of a 12-year-old girl.
The 42-year-old Corentyne resident made his appearance before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga and was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on October 3 at Corentyne, he raped the girl under the age of 16.
According to the prosecution, the man committed the act with the minor at his home.
After a number of persons became aware of the alleged incident, the matter was reported and the man was subsequently arrested and charged.
The accused was subsequently placed on $5000 station bail and was instructed to make his court appearance on October 7, which he failed to do. As such, an arrest warrant was issued.
Police Officers arrested the man who was hiding out at his mother’s house in Rose Hall Town.
The man was remanded to prison.
His next scheduled court appearance is slated for November 17, 2016.
