Dellon Harvey, a Police Constable stationed at the Rose Hall Town Outpost, is seriously injured after he swerved the motorcar he was driving to avoid a collision with a herd of cows.
The accident occurred on Tuesday at around 21:30hrs along the Number 60 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Harvey, along with another occupant, were in the vehicle which proceeding at a fast rate of speed when suddenly, the driver swerved to avoid a collision with the herd of cows on the roadway.
As a result, the vehicle smashed into a concrete culvert then into a metal gate, causing it to become mangled.
The passenger was assisted out of the wreckage by public-spirited citizens but the cop was pinned in the vehicle. Reports are that his intestines were protruding.
Several minutes after, members of Guyana Fire Service along with a doctor and nurses of the Skeldon Hospital assisted the driver out of the vehicle and took him to the Skeldon Hospital where he was seen and examine by a doctor on duty who treated and referred him to New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further treatment.
The passenger was treated and sent away.
Just a few days ago, two policemen and nurses were injured after the vehicle they were traveling in also swerved to avoid a collision with a cow on the roadway.
