Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred about 11:30h on Saturday on the Success Public Road in Leguan, Essequibo Island, which resulted in the death of Police Constable 23238 Shaqiel Woolford.
The 20-year-old deceased was attached to the Leguan Police Station and is from of 12 Catherine, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
Enquiries disclosed that Constable Woolford (deceased) was proceeding east along the road on motor cycle CH1860 when another motor cycle CH4564 driven by a 44-year-old Phoenix, Leguan resident, rode out of a yard from a northern direction into the path of the policeman and collided.
As a result of the impact, Constable Woolford fell and received injuries to his face and head.
He was rushed to the Leguan Cottage Hospital in a conscious state where he was treated and referred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital but succumbed on his way to that medical institution.
The body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home in Best Village awaiting a post Mortem.
The cyclist is in custody.
Woolford’s accident came on the heels of another one on Thursday which resulted in the death of another police rank, Constable 22155 Khrystama Yasin.
Yasin succumbed to his injuries hours after being involved in an accident with a female who was said to be pushing a bicycle along the Borlam Public Road, in Berbice about 23:30hrs on Thursday.
He was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the Borlam Public Road with his motorcycle CG 7801, when he collided with pedestrian Youlander Collins, 27, of Dazelle Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
They were both rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where Constable Yasin died whilst being prepared to be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
