[www.inewsguyana.com] – Clive Nero of Blue Sakhi Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown was today (Wednesday, July 16), ordered to post $250,000 bail on an embezzlement charge by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry.
The 32 – year – old man pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between August 26, 2013 and July 2, 2014 he embezzled $1.5M.
Nero was at the time employed as a Clerk/Servant by Lakeram Singh at Tiger Creek, Cuyuni River.
The accused was represented by Attorney – at – Law, Adrian Thompson. Thompson told the Court that it was a mix up at a Call Centre and the money was not accounted for.
However, the defendant made arrangements with the Virtual complainant (VC) to repay the sum of money in a given time but unfortunately was unable to do so.
The VC reported the matter to the Police after Nero failed to fulfill his end of the bargain.
On a separate note, Nero was placed on his own recognizance after pleading not guilty to an assault charge, details of which alleged that on April 13 at Tiger Creek, he unlawfully assaulted Erick Gordon, so as to cause him actual bodily harm.
He was granted bail on condition that he will report to the ‘F’ Division every fortnight, commencing this Friday.
The matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrates’ Court for report and fixtures on July 24.
