The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) condemns and denounces the outrageous grenade attack perpetrated on Mr. Glenn Lall of Kaieteur News.
“While we are not sure of the motive for such a heinous act, the reason has become irrelevant as such an action in our country is not only an attack on Mr. Lall, but on the freedom and liberty of all Guyanese,” the CIOG said in a statement today.
“If such action was intended to silence the views of a newspaper, or to attack the freedom of speech, then we all have a duty to ensure that such actions must never succeed. An attack on press freedom is an attack on our democracy, and an attempt to ignore the message and persecute the messenger,” the CIOG stated.
The CIOG also called on Guyanese to raise their voices in condemnation of this act. “We thank the Almighty that Mr. Lall did not suffer any injuries, and no harm was inflicted on anyone else. It is our fervent hope that the perpetrators of this crime will be brought to justice, and justice will be swift and severe in order to deter any future planned acts of terror in our beloved country,” it added.
