[www.inewsguyana.com] – Christianburg Wismar Secondary has lifted the trophy for the inaugural Chico, Kashif and Shanghai Schools Football Tournament following a penalty affair on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.
The two time Digicel Schools Football Champions added the Kashif and Shanghai Trophy to their already laden shelf with a 2-4 penalty win over Ash Education.
The game went into penalty mode following a deadlocked 1-1 affair with Shane Luckie opened the scoring for the Linden based side in the 4th minute.
Akeemo Watts led the counter attacks that finally had successful results in the 76th minute and no team was able to score another in the regular or extra time.
In the end, the Linden side will cart off $1.2 million as their first place winnings, 75% of which will go to a project while 25% will go in the form of gift vouchers, redeemable at several stores around the city to the players for school supplies and or sports gear.
Ash education will cart off the second prize of $750,000, $500,000 will go to Waramadong Secondary, who thrashed St Georges secondary 9-0.
Lindell Joseph netted four goals in the 10th, 32nd, 68th and 88th minutes while Dion Rodigues and Wasir Bascome supported with 2 each, in the 12th and 78th and 39th and 47th respectively.
Miles Albert netted added one goal in the 71st minute, $250,000 will go to the 4th placed St Georges.
The tournament saw sponsors like Beharry through its Chico Brand, Mohammeds Enterprise and Cellphone Shack.
