Two Chinese were fined on Thursday when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, on a charge of overstaying their time in Guyana.
Zenyong Laing, 32, and Zebim Laing, 33, of lot 628 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden pleaded guilty –via an interpreter- to the charge which stated that they failed to comply with the conditions of a permit, which is to say that while being granted permission to stay in Guyana for the period March 19 2016, to June 20 2016, they overstayed.
The court was told that on May 30 2017, when police conducted a raid at a logging work site in South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, the duo’s offence was revealed.
The Chinese men apologized for overstaying in court.
They were then given the option to pay $30,000 each or spend four weeks behind bars before being deported.
