A West Bank Demerara (WBD) boy was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) Sunday morning after he was struck by a speeding car at the corner of Long Pond and Sisters Village Public Road, WBD. Information reaching Inews indicated that the accident occurred at about 09:00h after the lad’s mother had sent him on an errand. Apparently, his nine-year-old sister witnessed the ordeal.
Inews understands that the child, Brandon [only name given], was up to Sunday evening receiving oxygen while being treated for his injuries. A source close to the investigation disclosed that the child was struck by a Toyota Allion car.
The driver of the vehicle, PTT 391, reportedly told investigators that he did not realise he had struck the child. However, he was later taken into custody at the Wales Police Station.
Traffic Chief Dion Moore, had recently reported an increase in road fatalities by 21 per cent. The Traffic Chief also revealed that the total fatal accidents were up to 99 incidents, where 109 persons have lost their lives for the year thus far.
