Five persons- including a child- were on Sunday afternoon killed following a head-on collision on the Number 59 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to information received, the accident occurred around 13:45hrs between a motorcar, PPP 3394 and a truck (motor lorry), GZ 2763.
The dead persons are said to be the driver of the motorcar- identified as Dhanpaul Kishandyal, 37, of First Street, Bel Air, Georgetown and four other occupants who are yet to be identified.
This publication was informed that the motorcar was traveling south along the eastern side of the public road at a fast rate when it reportedly dropped into a pot hole causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the truck, driven by Doodram Singh,30, of No.49 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, which was traveling in the opposite direction.
The bodies of the dead persons were seen scattered near the accident scene, all motionless.
According to the police, as a result of the impact, the driver of the motorcar and its occupants sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead on arrival at the Skeldon Public Hospital.
The bodies are presently at the Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the motor lorry is, a patient at the said hospital, in a serious condition.
Investigations are ongoing.
