[www.inewsguyana.com] – The cream of the amateur boxing crop will head to Bartica this weekend for the Guyana Boxing Association’s (GBA) National Champion of Champions tournament Friday and Saturday evening.
The fighters will leave Georgetown tomorrow morning for Bartica where they will be in competition against the best from Berbice, Linden and Essequibo.
Some of the expected boxers are Junior/flyweight, Tyrone Lashley (Rose Hall Jammers), bantamweights, Mark Marshall (Guyana Defense Force), Stephon Nedd (Republican Boxing Gym), lightweights Clairmonte Gibson (Guyana Defense Force), Stephon Gouveia (Harpy Eagles) and Imran Khan (Guyana Police Force), junior /welterweight, Bert Braithwaite (Guyana Defense Force), as well as welterweights, Ron Smith (Guyana Defense Force) and Eon Bancroft, middleweights, Markember Pierre (Guyana Defense Force) and Dennis Thomas (Police) and heavyweight, Jason Barker (Republican Boxing Gym) were also named.
Two females, middleweights, Dwon Thompson (Guyana Defense Force) and Theresa London will also participate in the program.
GBA Technical Director, Terrence Poole says the association is working in tandem Red Earth Promotions, a group out of the host community, indicating further that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports had also rendered support.
