[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – five – year old Leroy Fredericks of Onderneeming Sand Pit Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast was remanded to prison on Friday, June 05 by Magistrate Sunil Scarce for the offence of raping a seven year old girl.
It is alleged that on May 31, Fredericks, who is a Carpenter, engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16 at his Onderneeming house. Prosecutor Haimarj Ramsewack objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and its prevalence.
He told the Suddie Magistrate’s Court that the child was hospitalized following the incident but was recently discharged. Fredericks’ lawyer, Haimraj Rajkumar said this is the first time that his client has been before the court and that he is not a flight risk.
According to the defense counsel, Fredericks has a permanent place of adobe. Magistrate Sunil Scarce however refused bail and remanded Fredericks to prison. He will make a next appearance in the Charity Magistrate’s court on June 26.
