The Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has written the Guyana’s COVID-19 Task Force about its preparations for the team’s arrival here to observe the countrywide recount of votes from the March 2 polls.

This was communicated today by GECOM’s Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward, who noted that CARICOM has not indicated a date of arrival in Guyana.

GECOM will be moving ahead with a countrywide recount of the votes, but the starting date for the activity will be influenced by the CARICOM delegation’s arrival in the country.

CARICOM, in its letter, said arrangements would be made for the members of the team to be tested in their respective country, using the WHO approved PCR COVID-19 test.

CARICOM also requested approval for the departure and landing of a chartered flight from Guyana to collect the team members and return the day. Similar arrangement for their return upon completion of the exercise.

Additionally, the CARICOM SG made a request for the WHO approved PCR COVID-19 to be administered to the team before they depart Guyana.
