Child sex abuse ring with Venezuela linkages busted
[BBC] – Officials in Mexico say 60 people have been arrested in the US, Latin America and Spain over alleged links to a ring circulating images of child sex abuse.
The Mexican government said almost 100 raids had been carried out in 12 countries. Three girls aged between nine and 15 were rescued in Mexico, a government commission said in a statement.
Computers were seized that were allegedly used to post indecent videos on the internet. The Mexican National Security Commission said searches were carried out in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Spain, the United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.
“Operation Without Borders” was aimed at “breaking various structures dedicated to the distribution of pornographic material of children via the internet”, the commission said in a statement.
A fourth girl was rescued as part of the operation but the commission did not specify in which country.
The raids come two months after Spanish police arrested more than 80 people in raids targeting images of child sex abuse.
Sex video on phone caused woman to lie to police
[Antigua Observer] – A young woman found herself on the wrong side of the law after she reportedly went to the police and told them that she was robbed of her phone in an attempt to get back her boyfriend’s phone which she claimed had sexual videos of her.
The phone in question was handed over to the police in the aftermath of an attempted robbery.
The 21-year-old accused, Chevelle Hall, is charged with creating public mischief and is scheduled to return to court on January 17, after her bail was extended.
According to the police report, on October 28 Hall went to the Constant Spring Police Station and reported that she was walking along Constant Spring Road when a motorcycle with two men aboard rode up and the pillion rider grabbed her phone.
On that same day, a case of assault was reported and the phone was handed over by the complainant after her attacked left it behind.
In that case the culprit, who was on a motorcycle with another man, reportedly tried to take away the woman’s handbag but during the tussle he dropped his phone and sped off leaving it.
