‘Prevention is better than cure’. This is the message behind the donation of a quantity of ‘breast-lights’ to the Guyana Cancer Foundation (GCF) by the Caribbean Medical Supplies Inc. The donation was made on Thursday, at the Foundation’s office in Georgetown in keeping with observances to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The product is a hand-held device that allows for early detection of cancer by illuminating the breast with an ultra violet light which is seen throughout the breast. With the illumination, it is easy to see any mass or debris tissue that might be building up in the breast.
President of the Guyana Cancer Foundation, Ms. Bibi Hassan, received the items and expressed thanks to Caribbean Medical Supplies Inc. for the generous donation.
The timely gesture coincided with ‘No Bray Day’ which was observed internationally on October 13th.
The Foundation is stepping up its efforts to raise awareness of the importance of breast cancer screening, get persons to recognise the symptoms of breast cancer early and do regular self-examinations. (Carl Croker)
