Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) over the past week has conducted several operations in Georgetown during which two illegal firearms and ammunition were discovered.
The exercise was conducted between February 25 and 27 by officers from the Unit’s Special Operations team.
Of the two handguns seized, one was a Taurus 9 mm pistol along with a 10-round magazine and the other was a .38 Special Revolver.
According to CANU, these operations are part of its collaboration with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to keep communities safe as part of the national safe country strategy.
“CANU would like to thank the general public for their support, as well as the numerous tips we have received from various communities; we will continue to work with you in rooting out narcotics and criminal activities from your respective areas,” a brief missive from the Unit today detailed.
