The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Sunday during a routine operation at a cargo company at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Timehri, EBD, intercepted a motor car, PWW 5561 with the driver as the lone occupant.
A search was conducted on the vehicle which led to the discovery of 23 brick-like parcels of suspected cocaine and a 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing 14 rounds of matching ammunition.
As such, Christopher Michael Douglas, 37, of Providence East Bank Demerara (EBD) and of King Edward Street, Albouystown, Georgetown was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters.
Whilst there the narcotic tested positive for cocaine and upon weighing it amounted to 26.016kg (almost 57.35 lbs.), with a street value of approximately GUY $27 million.
CANU continues to work assiduously with other stakeholders to ensure that narcotics are not transshipped via passenger or cargo through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and the Eugene F. Correia International Airport.
