Police were able to re-capture Camp Street prison escapee, Stafrei Hopkinson Alexander, without any altercation, in Berbice.
This publication was told that a after receiving information from the public, a special operation was launched in B Division with support from Police Headquarters which led to the re-capture of Alexander at 20:00hrs on Saturday night, in an unfenced yard in Toopoo Village, Hamshire, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to the Department of Public Information, at the time of his re-capture Alexander had an existing wound and is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed medical institution.
While the nature of the wound has not been confirmed at this time, it is believed he sustained the wound during a previous confrontation with the Joint Services in which he was able to escape.
The recapture of Alexander brings the total number of escapees on the run to seven (7).
The Force has issued commendations to the members of the public who provided the information which led to Alexander’s recapture and is asking that the public continue to provide information which is critical to the recapture of all the prison escapees.
