[www.inewsguyana.com] – After rescheduling from last Friday to Wednesday [August 20], Base Camp Ayanganna is now the 2014 champions of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Athletics Championships which took place at the Camp Ayanganna Ground.
Base Camp Ayanganna finished ahead of Defence Head Quarters (DHQ), which took second and Base Camp Stevenson emerged third; fourth place went to First Infantry.
The meet which is used to select the top athletes to represent the military men and women at the annual Inter Services Athletics Championships (ISAC) also known as Joint Services, saw Patrick King dominating the 100 metres to win the event in 10.6s.
Akeem Stewart was the winner of the men’s 200 metres while Javelin winner Leslain Baird also won the men’s 400 metres.
The female 100 metres went to Letitia Myles while newcomer Neisa Allen won the women’s 200 and 400 metres.
On the distance side of things, Cleveland Forde was once again showing top form with a wins in the men’s 1500 and 5000 metres while Carlissa Atkinson won a distance triple in the women’s 800, 1500 and 3000 metres.
The ISAC games are scheduled for later this year.
