Businessman charged with illegal possession of gun, ammo

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – four – year old  Hurando McCoy of Lot 16, William Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, charged with the  unlawful possession of a gun and ammunition.

It is alleged that on October 23, 2015 at William Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, he had in his possession one 9mm pistol and 15 live rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm license.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence. His Lawyer explained to the court that McCoy is a businessman and proprietor of  two shops. 

He denied that the items were found in his client’s possession, pointing out that the shop is frequented by various persons on a daily basis and that it could belong to anyone.

However, the Prosecution told a different story, where they explained that ranks, acting on information went to the residence of McCoy and conducted a search on his shop.

When asked if he alone had access to the property, the accused answered in the affirmative. Further search by the police revealed the gun and 15 live rounds ammunition hidden behind a cupboard.

He was remanded to prison and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on November 16.

Rumjat u can’t protect d people with u fail policy ..the people can’t get legal gun papers çàuse u being one of the dictator ..FEEls like to stop license for guns until u feel like to give and who u feel like to give ..the only people getting guns is the bandits …the Guyanese people got to find a way to protect them self …the apnc can’t help Guyana ..

  4. According to the minister of national security, anyone caught with illegal arms and ammunition will be dealt with by the full force of the law. RUMJAAT, we will wait and see
