A lone burglar reportedly escaped with a quantity of gold jewellery and a sum of cash after he broke into a house at Columbia Back, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Saturday evening.
Based on reports received, the house is occupied by a 56-year-old housewife, her husband and their grandson. However, the couple retired to bed at about 21:30h but after sometime, the woman was awakened by a noise in the house.
As such, she woke up her husband and they went to make checks during which they observed the silhouette of a male in the dark and scream for help.
This reportedly startled the intruder who made good his escape through a window. As they switched on the lights in the house, they discovered that her wardrobe was broken into and four gold chains, one gold band, three pairs of gold bangles and $20,000 in cash were missing.
They also discovered the several louvre panes from a window were missing. A report was subsequently made at the Anna Regina Police station and an investigation was launched.
