A brother and sister are said to be hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital following an accident, involving the motorcycle they were travelling on and a mini-bus, on the Foulis Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Friday evening.
Injured are 18-year-old Bisson Suedatt and his 17-year-old sister Seermattie Suedatt, both of Foulis Fourth Street, ECD.
Based on police reports, at around 16:45hrs, mini-bus BTT 4262, which was being driven by a 55-year-old Golden Grove, ECD resident, was travelling east along the northern side of Foulis Public Road and was in the process of passing another mini-bus, which was stationary on same side of the road.
However, at the same time, Bisson, who was the rider of the motorcycle, allegedly rode out of a street on the northern side of the road into the path of the passing mini-bus.
The driver of the mini-bus immediately applied brakes and pulled towards the southern side of the road so as to avoid colliding with the motorcycle carrying two persons.
However, the left side front of the mini-bus collided into the cyclist and pillion rider causing them to be flung off the motorcycle and on to the road, some feet away.
Public spirited persons reportedly rushed the siblings to the hospital where they were admitted. Bisson is said to be suffering from a broken jaw while his sister sustained head and neck injuries.
The driver of the mini-bus is in police custody and both the mini-bus and motorcycle have been lodged. (Ramona Luthi)
