A worker from the Wales Sugar Estate, West Bank Demerara died today, Friday August 30, after being struck by lightning.
Industrial Relations Director of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO), Jairam Pitam confirmed the death of the sugar worker. Mr. Pitan revealed that the Corporation is now receiving the information of the sugar worker’s death.
In addition to this, iNews earlier reported that six cane harvesters from Blairmont Estate, Berbice were struck by lightning today, during the heavy downpour of rain.
Mr. Pitam told iNews that of the six workers who were struck, five of them are under observation at the Fort Wellington Hospital, while the other one is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The men were working in the fields at the time of the incident.
