[www.inewsguyana.com]– Efforts are still on to contain the fire. A more up-to-date report from the scene indicate that the fire originated in the vicinity of an abandoned government bond which is close to the Port Kaituma police station.
Several shops have been destroyed. Port Kaituma is known internationally as the area not far from the Jonestown Massacre of the late 1970s. Fire has taken over shops and buildings in Port Kaituma, Region One.
Reports are that the fire seems out of control despite efforts of citizens. There are no fire tenders in Port Kaituma which is the main hub for mining in the North West region.
