[www.inewsguyana.com] Local Government Minister, Ganga Persaud today, Thursday, January 23 tendered his resignation as Minister of Local Government and Regional Development citing personal reasons and future commitments.
The Minister, in a statement thanked the President in whom he expressed confidence in giving an opportunity to serve as the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development.
Minister Ganga Persaud reiterated his support for the PPP stating that the PPP is the best hope of any development in Guyana and promised to work assiduously to ensure the PPP regains the majority at the next elections.
The Local Government Minister also pointed out that he will continue to serve both the government and party but due to other obligations decided to demit office at this time. The Minister’s resignation is reported to take effect from January 31, 2014.
Minister Ganga Persaud has been credited to rejuvenate local government bodies and his efforts to straighten out a delinquent Mayor and City Council. Ganga Persaud was appointed Minister of Local Government and Regional Development after the November 28, 2011 election.
