With effect from April 1, Members of Parliament (MP) on the government side who have dual citizenship have resigned and as such, will not be returning to parliament when it reconvenes on April 11.
According to a release from the Ministry of the Presidency, President David Granger accepted resignations from several members including Minister of State Joseph Harmon who is a US citizen; Foreign Minister, Carl Greenidge; Business Minister, Dominic Gaskin and Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine.
Greenidge, Gaskin and Roopnaraine are all British Citizens.
These resignations came in light of mounting pressure from Opposistion Leader Bharrat Jagdeo and Civil Society who have been calling the governing Ministers to resign in light of the Appeal Court’s Ruling with respect to Dual Citizenship.
