[www.inewsguyana.com] – Stanley Lovell, also known as Steve, who was shot and killed early Saturday morning, was formerly accused of murder.
iNews understands that Lovell was the man charged with the murder of a University of Guyana student, Dennis Edghill in 2008 at University’s Career Day Fair at the Turkeyen campus.
The charge was dismissed against him because there was no evidence linking him to the stabbing incident, which occurred on February 15, 2008.
Edghill was among several students at UG on the day in question when a row erupted between two students. Edghill intervened since one of the students was a close friend when he was stabbed in the neck and stomach with a broken bottle by Lovell. Lovell was a friend of the person involved in the row with Edghill’s friend.
Meanwhile, the police in ‘A’ Division are investigating Lovell’s murder and according to a police statement, he is a car rental agent of 64 Prashad Nagar, Georgetown.
Police confirmed that the shooting occurred about 03:00 hrs at Regent and Bourda Streets, Georgetown. Also wounded in the shooting is 21 – year – old Anthony Lall, a cleaner of Bent Street, Wortmansville, Georgetown.
Police investigations revealed that Lovell was sitting on the bonnet of his motor car, PMM 3825 when he was approached by a male who was armed with a high powered weapon and who opened fire, hitting him 13 times about his body and escaped in a waiting vehicle.
Lall, who was said to be standing next to Lovell, was shot in his left foot; he was treated at a hospital and sent away. He is presently assisting the police in their investigations.
