[www.inewsguyana.com] – The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is still deciding on who will be its representative at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) following the recent resignation of Dr. Keshav ‘Bud’ Mangal.
General Secretary of the Party, Clement Rohee ruled out the possibility of former Chief Election Officer, Gocool Boodoo and PPP Parliamentarian Bibi Shadick taking the position.
The two were rumored to be the likely candidates to fill the post; however Rohee debunked the report when asked at the Party’s weekly press conference on Monday, February 02.
Rohee could not provide information as to who will fill the vacancy, even though general and regional elections are less than a 100 days away.
Opposition Leader David had recently objected to the appointment of both Boodhoo and Shadick.
He said that Boodoo’s appointment would be unethical, after he left the Commission having supervised the 2001, 2006 and 2011 elections. He believes it would pose serious problems.
Shadick was also recently appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of the University of Guyana. Granger said her appointment would trigger widespread astonishment.
