The non – renewal of the contract for GECOM’s former Chief Elections Officer [CEO], Gocool Boodhoo has been described as fast and furious by Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon.
At his post cabinet media briefing today, Dr. Luncheon said that Boodhoo’s removal from GECOM has reawaken further interest into the functioning of the Commission and perhaps more persons might be dislodged.
“Fast and Furious have been the charges and counter charges by GECOM functionaries, acolytes in the wake of the Gocool Boodhoo’s contract non renewal…” Dr. Luncheon told reporters.
According to Dr. Luncheon, there was an isolated case of vendetta against Boodhoo.
“The Chairman’s [Dr. Steve Surujbally] espousal of his boys in the Secretariat appeared to have white wash critical shortcomings in registration activities, election day staffing and logistics and accountability.”
In July, GECOM’s Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally broke a tie which existed among commissioners after he voted against the reappointment of Boodhoo.
Boodhoo had moved to the High Court to challenge any attempt by GECOM to vote against his bid for reappointment as he had a legitimate expectation, but the case was dismissed on technicalities.
