The body of missing 37-year-old Zaila Sugram was earlier this afternoon discovered at the side of her ex-husband’s home at Crane Village, West Coast Demerara.
The woman went missing on Sunday evening after her ex-husband collected her from a relative’s home where she had gone to spend time with her youngest child.
Ever since telephone calls to her mobile phone went unanswered thus raising speculations among relatives. The police were contacted and the ex-husband, Ryan Sugrim who operates a Service Station at Crane Village was arrested.
The couple parted ways recently after the woman lived an abusive relationship for 15 years.
Based on reports received, checks were made at several of the man’s properties between Monday and Tuesday morning but there were no signs of the woman or her body.
However, after intense interrogation, the man confessed to murdering the mother of his five children and burying her body at the side of his property. It remains unknown what method he used to kill the woman.
The police are continuing their investigation into the murder.
