The body of a man who had been reported missing since Thursday last was this afternoon found buried in a shallow grave in the backlands of Crabwood Creek (CWC), Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The man has been identified as 37-year-old Ghowcharran Persaud of Grant 1805 CWC, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Persaud had reportedly gone on a fishing expedition with two friends, ‘Ameer’ and ‘Bharrat’ and was expected back on Saturday.
The now dead man’s brother, Pravwsh said on Saturday, one of his brother’s friends informed him that Persaud was shot at a location about ten miles into the backdam at Ling Canal Conservancy.
“Ameer say that Bharrat fire about five shot and my brother get hit and fall. He said he had to run and then jump on his bike and ride out. He said he ride the bike with the wheel punctured because he could have got shoot too.”
On Sunday, a search party which included police officers went to the location and what appeared to be blood was seen on the ground but there was no sight of Persaud.
Meanwhile, the search continued and this afternoon, the body of Persaud was discovered buried in a shallow grave beneath a tree, a short distance from where the blood-like substances were found.
