The fisherman whose identity was unknown at the time of his death yesterday morning following an accident at Houston, East Bank Demerara (EBD) has been identified as 60-year-old Juene Carroll Marshall of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Traffic Chief Deon Moore told INews this afternoon that the accident occurred around 04:30h on Tuesday morning and the car which was involved in the accident (PPP 4701) with the pedal cyclist was allegedly being driven at that time by someone who was under the influence.
According to Moore, the results of the breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of the car revealed that he had consumed more alcohol than what the law allowed for persons operating any vehicle.
“When this accident occurred it wasn’t until about an hour and half later that is when the driver of the car made the report…he was dazed, in shock you can say, with what had happened…but he is in police custody presently,” the Traffic Chief stated.
INews understands that the driver of the car is 27-years of age and resides in Broad Street, Georgetown.
Meanwhile, investigations are currently on-going to verify what transpired that tragic morning.
Initial reports were that the pedal cyclist was riding along the western carriage way of the road but lost control and collided with the car in the vicinity of Rahaman’s turn.
Marshall is said to have died “on the spot”.
