The lifeless body of a yet to be identified elderly man was this morning discovered lying in a ditch in front of a popular pharmacy on the Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara Public road.
Inews understands that the discovery was made at around 06:30hrs and the police were contacted. The visibly battered body was removed some time after 07:00hrs.
According to sources, the surveillance footage attached to the nearby business revealed that the man was allegedly struck down around 04:00hrs as he was attempting to cross the road.
The driver of the vehicle however, reportedly failed to render assistance after the man was flung into the ditch and instead, drove away.
Investigations are ongoing.
