Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a man who is yet to be identified.
The discovery was made by a resident of Wakenaam Island, Essequibo River at around 09:00h today.
The resident said as he was heading to Maria’s Pleasure Koker, he observed a body floating in the water.
As such, he raised an alarm causing a crowd to gather; police were then summoned and fished the body from the water.
The body, which was clad in a pair of brown short pants, was escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where it was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced it dead on arrival.
Investigations are ongoing.
