National-Blood-Donor[www.inewsguyana.com] – Some 25 persons who turned up to donate blood at a blood drive hosted by the Guyana Pandits’ Council on Saturday were shocked to learn that they could not donate blood.

Information reaching iNews indicate that staff members from the National Blood Transfusion Centre only catered for 40 units of blood and that quota was filled with many donors outstanding.

According to Pandit Sharma, over the years, the Radha Krishna Mandir would have been donating over 60 units of blood to the Centre whenever blood drives are hosted.

“Yesterday they sent three staff members there they were very unprofessional. After about 40 persons would have donated, they told them that they can’t take from anyone else. When we inquired they said it’s because of a shortage of bar codes,” the Pandit stated.

He said that the situation was discouraging given the daily appeals for blood donations to be made.

Only recently, a quantity of blood donated at the Suddie Hospital was spoiled while in-transit to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
