A man of ‘questionable’ character, commonly called ‘Blackie’ was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment for breaking and entering a house on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD) and stealing an electric stove among other items.
However, as a result of the incident being caught on CCTV cameras, police ranks were able to identify the bandit and eventually nab him.
Reports are that Derrick Laundry, the 38-year-old criminal, is said to have committed the act a few weeks ago and was ‘on the run’.
Police ranks had a difficulty in locating the man due to the fact that he had at least three addresses; one home at Den Amstel, WCD, another in Canje, Berbice and the third at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
‘Blackie’ made his first court appearance at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, WCD, yesterday where he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a home at Den Amstel and stealing the occupant’s electric stove, cellular phone and other items.
As a result of this he was sentenced to three years in the lock-ups and, according to the police, there are other matters pending for the bandit that they hope to have tried in the Courts soon.
