The prime suspect in the recent alleged beating to death of a Timehri (East Bank Demerara) miner in the Potaro Backdam (Region-Eight) was on Thursday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he was charged with the capital offence of murder and remanded to prison.
The charge against Naresh Baldeo also known as “Black Boy” of Yarakabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, detailed that on August 13, 2017, he allegedly murdered Mohabir Gangadeen. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
According to Police reports, on the day in question the now deceased man and the accused were involved in a drunken argument which quickly escalated and became physical; Gangadeen was badly beaten during the ordeal and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
Baldeo, a 35-year-old father of one was represented by Legal Counsel, Tiffany Jeffery, who related that her client is a first time offender with no previous or pending matters before the courts.
The lawyer indicated that her client was injured during the altercation with the deceased man and requested that he receive medical attention in the circumstances.
‘Black Boy’ will remain incarcerated until October 17, 2017, when the case will be called at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court (Region-Eight).
