[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 36-year-old resident of West Coast Berbice was on Thursday, March 26 remanded by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Lloyd Monroe of Lot 3 Ross Village pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on Wednesday, March 25 at 111 Miles, Mahdia he had in his possession four grams of cocaine.
Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the Court that on March 25, police went to the house where Monroe resides and conducted a search on the premises. It was then that the officers found the prohibited substance on top the counter in the home.
Defence Counselm Jerome Khan had a different story about the drug find. Khan told the Court that on the day in question, his client traveled to the Police Station to lodge a complaint about some missing cash. It was there that officers informed him that they needed to conduct a search on his premises.
He said that when the narcotics were discovered, his client told the officers that he had no knowledge of it. The Prosecutor however opposed bail citing that no special reason was advanced by the defendant.
Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court for April 28.
