As the world prepares to observe World Suicide Prevention day on September 10, a Blairmont West Bank Berbice teenager was found hanging from the rafter of the verandah of his parents’ home on Tuesday evening. Dead is 17-year-old Yougram Baldesh of Blairmont WBB.
According to reports, the now dead teenager reportedly had an argument with a relative prior to the discovery, which was made by his step-father.
INews understands that the teenager went to work as usual and returned at about 17:00h but subsequently left home to visit friends at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice. Sadit Persaud, the young man’s mother told media operatives that her son returned home in a heavily intoxicated state.
While at home, she explained that he turned on the music system to the loudest and was looking at television at the same time. She reportedly requested that he turn down the volume of the music system but he refused.
However, after some time, his step-father went to check on him but it was then he made the gruesome discovery. He was found hanging in a motionless state. He was cut down and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
His mother admitted that her now dead son attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance on two separate occasions..
Meanwhile, a report was made to the Police and an investigation was launched.
