A forty-year-old man is now on the run after allegedly chopping a teenager to his head on Monday last in Alness Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Based on reports gathered, at approximately 15:30hrs on the day in question, 17-year-old Burtrum Francis of lot 15 Alness Village was standing outside of a wash bay in the same village, when his attacker approached him and began to berate him over a bicycle he [Francis] had borrowed.
INews understands that Francis had borrowed the bicycle he had in his possession at the time, from the perpetrator’s sister. However, this seemed to have annoyed the suspect, since he would usually need the bicycle to use on a daily basis.
The teenager explained that after the man continued to use profanities and insult him, he returned the pedal cycle to him [attacker]. However, this did not seem to pacify the angered man. Francis noted that after returning the cycle, he moved away from near the man and entered his friend’s yard. His attacker then left the scene only to return shortly after with a cutlass in his possession. It was then that he (suspect) allegedly chopped the teen once across the head, dropped the weapon and fled the scene.
Eyewitnesses at the scene rushed the victim to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and he was treated for a fractured skull.
Investigations are ongoing.
