The duo who allegedly confessed to raping and murdering 13-year-old Leonard Archibald were on Wednesday remanded to prison when they appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ court.
Hillary Edwards, 29, and Nicholas Christopher, 19, both of Sister’s Village, East Bank Berbice were not required to plead to the indictable murder charge which alleged that between September 17 and September 23, 2017, they murdered the 13-year-old.
The two were unrepresented and are expected to return to court on December 8, 2017.
INews had previously reported that the teenager, who was on Tuesday laid to rest, went missing on September 10, 2017, after riding ahead of his three sisters he was accompanying home from a birthday party in the neighbouring village.
It is believed that one of the suspects who is a relative of the now dead teenager lured him into his yard to run an errand, promising the young lad payment.
However, he was instead captured and sexually assaulted by the two men. Reports further indicate that after the child lost consciousness, he was bound and thrown into the Berbice River along with his bicycle.
The two suspects reportedly confessed to Police on Friday last and related the horrific story.
The bicycle was discovered in the Berbice River behind the suspects’ house about 40 feet from the high tide mark.
On Saturday afternoon, the deteriorated body of Archibald was discovered by a search party, some three miles from his home in a decomposed state on a mud flat in the village of Khotbradt.
