A 38-year-old miner of Third Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) was on Monday morning stabbed to death by a 25-year-old miner who has since been arrested.
The incident occurred at Obanna Backdam at around 11:00hrs.
Dead is Eon Anthony Ramnarine.
Police said Ramnarine and the suspect are known to each other, since their camps are located nearby.
Reports are that Ramnarine would often call the suspect names like “madman” and “auntyman”.
On the day in question, the suspect was passing next to Ramnarine’s camp to go to his worksite when the duo got into an argument.
During the verbal row, Ramnarine picked up a piece of wood and lashed the suspect to his head and foot.
In response, the suspect, who was armed with a knife, stabbed the miner about his body.
The suspect then went to his father, who was at their worksite, and told him what had transpired.
The suspect was then arrested and he handed over the murder weapon to police. Investigations are ongoing.
