Kurt Spencer, a 45-year-old mason from Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), was on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of $150,000 in a sexual offence case brought against him.
He is accused of causing a child to watch a sexual act, an offence outlined in Section 12 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.
Spencer appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charge which Police stated occurred on February 24, 2023. The child involved was 12 years old at the time.
The case was adjourned to November 15, 2023.
According to the Sexual Offences Act, “A person (“the accused”) commits the offence of causing a child to watch a sexual act if the accused causes a person, who is under sixteen years of age (“the complainant”), to watch the accused or a third person engaging in a sexual activity or to look at an image of a person engaging in a sexual activity.”
