A 38-year-old miner was on Tuesday crushed to death by a falling tree branch at Two Point Backdam, Cuyuni River.
Dead is Daymon Gibson of Caribese Hill, Bartica, Essequibo River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). He was the owner of a dredging operation at Two Point Backdam.
At around 12:00h on Tuesday, he and a friend were standing conversing at the work ground when suddenly a branch from a nearby tree fell and struck him to his head, causing him to receive injuries.
His workers rushed to his assistance and took him to the Aurora Mining Company, Cuyuni River, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
His body was later transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital where police observed injuries to his head and right hand.
The body is presently lying at the Bartica Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
