Devon Thomas, a 29-year-old barber of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice was on Tuesday evening chopped to his head and arm by a drunken man.
The incident occurred at around 18:30hrs at Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni River.
The barber was at a mining camp in a hammock when the suspect approached and started to argue with him.
The suspect then armed himself with a cutlass and upon seeing this, the barber ran away.
However, the suspect chased and caught up with the barber and dealt him a chop to his head and right arm before fleeing the scene.
The victim was then assisted by public-spirited persons and was escorted to Bartica Regional Hospital where he arrived on Wednesday afternoon and was admitted a patient.
He was later referred to Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention.
The suspect remains at large. Investigations are ongoing.
