A 29-year-old bank accountant and a 49-year-old taxi driver were robbed on Tuesday evening of a quantity of cash, their mobile phones and other valuables by an armed motorcycle bandit in the vicinity of the Providence Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
The victims have been identified as Lauren Thomas of Providence Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara and Mark Horgobin of Duncan Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
According to information reaching INews, the incident occurred at around 20:30hrs.
Enquiries disclosed that Thomas left her work place in Georgetown in a taxi, driven by Horgobin, which proceeded east along Greenfield road, Providence, then right into another street, heading south.
It was there that a male reportedly rode up on a black motorcycle –without licence plates- from the eastern direction and stopped in front of the motorcar, forcing the driver to bring the vehicle to a halt.
The perpetrator then allegedly walked to the driver side of the motorcar, withdrew a gun and hit Horgobin on the head with same.
The unmasked suspect reportedly proceeded to relieve the duo of one Michael Kors handbag valued at $8,000, one Samsung Galaxy S5 valued at $40,000, one Blu mobile phone valued at $25,000, one Alcatel mobile phone valued at $32,000, one GBTI bank card, and $20,000 in cash.
He then fled the scene in a northern direction.
